March 2014
Wonderful things can happen when educators work together. That’s why this month we’re excited to release new features for working collaboratively, staying organized, and finding great content. We’ve even got a few tips to help you prepare for next generation standards and assessments. Read on to learn more!
The power of collaboration
You’ve worked hard to curate your collections. Why not share your work with your colleagues? The new collaborator feature lets you invite up to 20 of your peers or colleagues to edit, improve, and assign your collections! To access the new Collaborator feature, just visit the Organize tab and select “Collaborator”. Enter up to 20 email addresses to let the teamwork begin. You can learn more about the Collaborator feature in this support article.
Organize your collections
Is your digital classroom in need of a little spring cleaning? With the new folders feature, it’s simple to organize your collections. You can create as many folders as you like, so feel free to organize your collections by subject, period, or unit.To create a folder, just visit the Organize tab and click “Create”. To transfer collections into your new folder, open any of your collections and click the “Move” button. Learn more about folders here.
Standards-Aligned Library
If you live in one of the 46 states that are adopting the Common Core State Standards, we don’t need to tell you that it’s time to dig up some new curriculum! To help you seamlessly transition to the new standards, we’ve released the Standards Library. You can find the Standards Library on www.goorulearning.org in the top-right corner. At the moment the Library contains standards-aligned collections for all Common Core Math standards grades 5-12. However, we’re planning on expanding this library in the near future, so check back in regularly for updates!
Preparing for next-generation assessments
Common Core isn’t the only new thing coming down the pipe! This month, teachers in 22 states are field testing the new Smarter Balanced assessments. Worried that your kids aren’t ready for computer-based assessments? The best preparation is exposure. Add questions to your collections to help your students get used to digital assessments.
