Silverback Mileposts featured in District Administration article: “Not Your Mother’s Student Information System”

By: Rudi Lewis

Congratulations to Gooding School District (pictured) and the Silverback team for receiving some good “ink” in the May 2012 issue of District Administration magazine.  “Not Your Mother’s Student Information System” (page 77 of the May DA issue in print, link to online version below,) is an article we had a lot of fun with and still got the main point across that Silverback is shaking up the educational data world.  The editor over at DA, Ed Finkel, wanted to position the piece as the “next generation” of Student Information Systems (SIS’s,) and invited Silverback to demonstrate how student demographic information is transitioning into a world of individual student achievement goals and interventions, dynamically linked to assessment, curriculum, and instruction, delivered via the cloud.

SIS or Something Different?

So does this mean Mileposts is now taking on the SIS world?  In a word, no.  Despite the catchy title, the intent of Ed’s article is to show the new breakthroughs in instructional data management that are helping students succeed at districts like Gooding School District in southern Idaho, where Silverback actually enhances the usability of their existing SIS as well as their Assessment systems and Curriculum and Instructional management systems and processes, and helps Gooding bring individualized learning and full Response-to-Intervention (RTI) management to the foreground.

RTI and a Whole Lot More!

Naturally, DA chose to focus on Silverback’s outstanding focus and results in RTI, but of course we also provide the host of other features spotlighted by other vendors in the article, such as assessment-to-curriculum data connections and our ability to run “in the cloud” as a software-as-a-service (Saas) product, with 100% of our access and functionality provided through plain old web browsers on any PC, notebook, tablet, or smartphone device.  For more information, visit us on the web at www.silverbacklearning.com or call us toll free at 855.258.2581.

We want to thank Superintendent Dr. Heather Williams and Gooding School District for their participation in the article, and of course thanks to Ed Finkel and DA magazine for recognizing the new possibilities in student achievement data management that are available to educators.
